Symbian OS goes OS

Good news for the open source world and, by extension, the world itself: the Symbian Operating System has gone Open Source. Yes, the Symbian OS has gone OS.

What is the Symbian OS? It's the leading smartphone operating system powering 330 million devices, almost the number of all its rivals' outfits combined. Today it's considered "geriatric" by iPhone and Android standards, but with an install base that big, plus now a development base as big as open source itself, Symbian may yet have a few tricks up its sleeves.

As big fans of open source, we're excited to Symbian going OS, joining Android and (mostly) Maemo and a number of other devices. One day we hope to get our open source software on some of them!
